72 cell tray - used when starting seeds indoors, usually made of plastic it contains 72 separate cells that you fill with soil and seed. There are holes in the bottom for drainage.
20 channel tray - used when starting seed indoors, usually made of plastic with 20 narrow rows running along the tray.
Dappled - in gardening dappled light means not direct sunlight but some sun and some shade.
Dibble - A hand-held tool with an end that is used to create a hole in your soil. They range in size from small - used when planting seeds, to large - used to create a hole the size of a seedling plug, for transplanting seedlings.
First frost date - this occurs in the fall and is the average date that your area will experience the first frost of the fall season. Your actual first frost can be different than your estimated first frost by a couple weeks. My estimated first frost date is considered to be October 15th but most years I have found it’s usually towards the end of October or beginning of November.
Last frost date - this occurs in the spring and is the average date that you will have your last frost of the spring season. It is a flexible guide. Your actual last frost can be different than your estimated last frost by a couple weeks. My last frost date is estimated to be May 3d.
Peduncle - (pronounced PED * uncle) part of a stem directly below the flower. I heard this word while watching a YouTube video from Heather at Petal Pink Flower Farm in her video about anemones.
Score the stem - Scoring the stem is when you take a sharp blade and make a shallow cut along the bottom portion of the stem. I usually make two cuts, one on each side of the stem. This is done to help the stem absorb more water.
