May 2, 2026 - Tulip Bouquets at Hopewell Market
Today’s bouquets at Hopewell Market are a mix of colorful tulips along with some boxwood branches for foliage. I also added a few leucojum, one of my favorite spring flowers. They are sometimes called Summer Snowflake or Giant Snowflake (leucojum aestivum). Not to be confused with Snowdrop which is very short and more like a ground cover. Leucojum come as bulbs that you plant in the fall. They are perennial, meaning they come back every year. They are between 1-2 feet tall. I planted mine in clumps and they increase in size every year. For me they bloom mid-April to early-May, around the same time as late tulips and late daffodils. You will get multiple stems from each bulb. The flowers are adorable, like something out of a fairytale. The stems have multiple white bell-shaped flowers that remind me of a lily-of-the-valley only bigger. They have a scalloped edge with a small green dot on each of the scallops. So cute!! I like to leave the stems long so they float above the other flowers in the bouquet.
NOTE: Did you know that tulips keep growing even after they are harvested? When I make bouquets, I leave the tulips shorter than the other ingredients in the bouquet. Within a couple of days, they will continue to grow and will be the same height as, or taller than, the foliage.
