June 1, 2026 - First Spring Bouquets at Hopewell Market

These beautiful bouquets are the first spring bouquets of the season (after my tulips and daffodils) and the first to feature my lupine which are a new perennial for me. I started them from seed last spring and only got a couple blooms, nothing usable. This year I had several blooms that I was able to use in these bouquets at Hopewell Market.

I also cut the first of my sweet William. These overwintered for me this year for the first time. I also have some that I started from seed this spring that will be blooming sometime in July.

These bouquets also have the first of my peonies for this year. I only had enough to put 2 in each bouquet. Unfortunately, my peony harvest for this year will be about 1/3 of what I usually get. Just as they were starting to bud-up, we got a frost that took about 2/3 of my crop. The plants themselves are ok, but many of the buds were damaged to the point where they will not bloom this year.

I also used columbine for the first time in these bouquets. I only have a couple plants, but I’ve heard they reseed readily so I’m hoping my crop will increase every year. I also used my first cuttings of orlaya for this season and a few bachelor buttons.

I think these bouquets are gorgeous. I’m really happy with how they turned out. I hope you like them too.
