Sunflowers, and Dahlias, and Zinnias…..Oh My!

These gorgeous sunflowers came from the last patch for this year. I planted 5 different successions, meaning I planted 5 different plots at different times throughout the summer. Sunflowers are a quick crop, the only take 55-60 days to bloom. They have a really long vase life, sometimes lasting 2-3 weeks. When my early summer flowers are done, like the canterbury bells and ranunculus, I pull those out I plant a patch of sunflowers. I wish I had planted another succession. I’m going to run out within the next two to three weeks. Enjoy them while you can.

Focals

  • dahlias - cornel, cornel bronze and Caitlyn’s joy, I think there was one Spooktacular and one Intrigue

  • zinnias - mostly purple, orange and wine Benary’s giant

  • sunflowers - variety called Horizon

Fillers

  • gomphrena - purple and pink

  • strawflower - one stem per bouquet

Foliage

  • nine bark

  • lemon basil
